How to tackle a fat pan fire with a fire blanket:
Do not move the pan.
Turn off the heat if it is safe to do so but never lean over the pan to reach the cooker controls.
Place a fire blanket (or a damp tea cloth or towel) over the pan to smother the flames, ensuring your hands are protected by the cloth. But only attempt this if it is safe to do so. If in any doubt get out and dial 999. Never put yourself in danger. NEVER throw water onto the fire.
Leave the pan to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
REMEMBER: If you can't control the fire, get out; stay out and call the fire service out. Dial 999 and ask for the Fire Service.
